Because we opted for a strongly typed view for our logon screen, we can use the builtin helpers to render the HTML for each input element. Instead of loosely bound strings to represent the action parameters, we can take advantage of the expressionbased HtmlHelper extensions to create various types of input elements, as shown in listing 3.10.

n this chapter, we focus on keys how they can be generated, stored, and used in different ways, and how parties can agree upon them. Key management refers to the process by which keys are generated, stored, agreed upon, and revoked. The following list presents some important questions pertaining to key management. In addition to the basic data types, GLib provides a number of predefined values and standard macros that you can use throughout your applications. While most applications will not make wide use of every macro, they are here to make your life easier. For instance, there are macros for checking the GLib version and various type conversions.

Until this point, when we have talked about keys, we have typically meant encryption keys. Yet, we have shown that encryption can be used to accomplish additional security goals, such as authentication; and that multiple keys (such as public and private keys) can be used to accomplish different goals even within the context of a single communication between Alice and Bob. In the next couple subsections, we will distinguish between identity keys, session keys, and integrity keys.

In listing 3.10, we take advantage of several of the HtmlHelper extension methods designed for strongly typed view pages, including methods for labels B, input text boxes C, and validation messages D. Instead of a loose-typed string to represent properties, like those used in ASP.NET MVC version 1 (<%=Html.TextBox("UserName")%>), these helper methods utilize the C# 3.5 feature of expressions to generate HTML. Because these HTML elements need to be generated to match properties on objects, it s only fitting that the original types and objects are used with expressions to generate the related HTML. The Html.LabelFor and Html.TextBoxFor methods used for the UserName property in listing 3.10 generate the HTML shown in listing 3.11.

The major version of the GLib headers that is included. To get the major version of the library that you linked against, you can use glib_major_version. In GLib 2.12.1, 2 indicates the major version. The minor version of the GLib headers that is included. To get the minor version of the library that you linked against, you can use glib_minor_version. In GLib 2.12.1, 12 indicates the minor version. The micro version of the GLib headers that is included. To get the micro version of the library that you linked against, you can use glib_micro_version. In GLib 2.12.1, 1 indicates the micro version. Returns TRUE if the version of the GLib header files that you are using is the same or a newer version than specified. You can use this to make sure that the user has a compatible version of GLib when compiling a specific feature.
