The pGina project (http://pgina.xpasystems.com) provides an alternative to Samba by replacing the login portion of the Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP operating system. The replacement login code makes use of a framework similar in intention to PAM in that it uses plug-ins to provide limitless authentication possibilities.
